Every year, thousands of movies hang in theaters around the world. Historical, humorous, scary, comedy, action. The variety is enormous and for all tastes. Some of them manage to gather more viewers, for whatever reason. Today we know which are the 5 highest-grossing films in the history of cinema.
Before we start, let’s clarify one issue. A feature film 50 or 70 years ago does not, of course, collect what one does now. For the simple reason that the price of access to theaters on the big screen is much higher today than in the middle of the 20th century.
For this reason, those who make an effort to know the income of feature films more accurately, studying inflation, have drawn up other lists that take into account the time when they were presented to society.
1. The Avengers: Endgame
This movie ranks number one. Directed by the Russo brothers, in this film the Avengers who have managed to survive Thanos’ attack come together to restore order to the universe.
2. Avatar
In 2009, James Cameron shocked the whole world again. He did it with Avatar, a science fiction feature film that takes us back to the year 2154. In it, Jake Sully, a former marine in a wheelchair, is sent to a mysterious planet, Pandora. That has a toxic atmosphere and against which he has created the Avatar program. Thanks to him, a biological body can be controlled remotely.
3. Star Wars
If we talk about special effects, Star Wars cannot be missing. Nor does it make it on this list of the 10 highest-grossing films in the history of cinema, where one of its titles manages to sneak in. The fourth mention is for this film released in 2015. Star Wars: The Force Awakens is the 7th episode of a classic saga that, 40 years after its release, continues to complete the most famous Star Wars of all time.
In this installment, we join two anonymous people, Rey, a scrap metal dealer from the desert, and Finn, a deserting stormtrooper. As we join them on their risky time-trial search for Han Solo and Chewbacca. They are the only rebel hope.
4. Jurassic World
We return from the orbit of the stars to Earth. But we do it to a fictional future, where one of the greatest diversions is meeting real dinosaurs. Jurassic World, also from 2015, presents us with a huge zoo that instead of having bears, monkeys or zebras has velociraptors, diplodocus, and tyrannosaurs.
The great special effects of the film are liked so much that Universal Studios has opted to produce several sequels. It was difficult for its director, Colin Trevorrow, to match the success of its predecessors. But the result achieved, with many “nods” to the original, seems to be up to par.
5. Titanic
The only title on this pre-2000 list is Titanic, which is up for a bronze medal. Directed by James Cameron, the spectacular soundtrack, photography, performance, and the simplicity and amenity with which it narrates the sinking of the world’s largest ocean liner for so long, turned this film into an unforgettable work, grossing $ 2.187 billion.
